 Paul Soper joined IMA Consulting as a Partner in 2009. He has over 24 years of financial experience, 20 of which are in the healthcare field with two of those years spent in an acute care hospital setting and the remaining 18 years spent with Ernst & Young LLP as both an auditor and advisor. Paul’s most recent experience was as an Executive Director for Ernst & Young’s Health Sciences Advisory Services (HSAS) practice where he was the Market Leader for Michigan and Wisconsin. As such, he was responsible for the delivery of high quality professional services to healthcare providers in those two states.
Consulting engagements led by Paul for Ernst & Young over the past several years have included:
• Medicare Disproportionate Share services to over 50 hospitals
• Medicare wage index services to over 50 hospitals
• Medicare Bad Debt services to 10 hospitals
• Medicare Organ Transplant services to 3 hospitals
• Medicare APC assessment services to 15 hospitals
• Wisconsin Medicaid services to 20 hospitals
• Federal 340b program services to 8 hospitals
• Rate rationalization or pricing services to 18 hospitals
Paul also provided numerous other services to Michigan & Wisconsin healthcare providers including interim financial and reimbursement management, financial projections, revenue cycle services along other Medicare reimbursement related projects including cost report reviews, psych decertification, and medical education reviews.
Finally, Paul provided transitional financial management services for Michigan’s largest Health Maintenance Organization (with over 600,000 members) along with performing physician practice strategic business planning, full practice assessments, and tax planning services including transitional financial management services for a 15 physician multi-specialty practice.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan; is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Michigan; and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
